When working on any old car, you will probably need to restore or replace the dashboard as part of a custom auto interior upgrade. This could lead to cracking in the surface and depending on how severe the damage is you may need to change the entire dash rather than only repair the cracks. Before you complete any custom auto interior work on a car, you must always disconnect the battery. You do not want any nasty incidents. You will then have to remove all the things you could i.e. the steering wheel, glove box, instrument cluster as well as any screws you could see.

Go slowly and carefully when removing the dashboard since it might still be connected to certain screws you missed. Taking care not to damage anything now will make your task simpler in the long run. A flathead screwdriver will assist you to finish the task.

You will have to remove the VIN tag (vehicle identification number) from the old dash since it must be shown on the new one. Fix the new piece into the car by reusing the existing brackets and screws. You might require few new ones if the old ones are damaged.

Re-fix the parts you removed earlier I.e. the instrument box and steering wheel. Ultimately, re-connect the battery to make sure everything works properly I.e. lights, radio etc.

If there are simply minor cracks, you may not have to replace the entire dashboard. You may be capable to repair the existing one using a special kit. You will have to paint over the entire surface when you have finished but to be true this method only works on very smaller cracks.

Although it look like more work it is often easier to only replace the dashboard than to try and repair it when performing custom auto interior work.
